Another of the great attractions of Almada are the beaches of the Costa da Caparica, the extensive beaches of the municipality of Almada (from the Costa de Caparica to Fonte da Telha) that cover about 13 km of coast, have excellent conditions for the practice of sea sports such as surfing, kit-surfing, windsurfing, bodyboard. Along the beaches there are several bars and restaurants offering the best of local cuisine. The beaches of Costa da Caparica are the best known and frequented.
In 2003 classified as the best shopping center in Europe, the Almada Forum has as its concern based on environmental protection, developing activities and alerting to issues of this interest. With 248 shops, 35 restaurants and 1 hypermarket, associated with a free car park.
In 1991 is inaugurated the Garcia de Orta Hospital, the only Public Hospital of the Municipality of Almada that also serves the municipality of Seixal.
The municipality of Almada has a wide network of establishments ranging from pre-school education to higher education, through vocational education, senior education and night schools.
Almada’s educational network consists of 129 schools (60 public schools and 69 private schools). It also features non-formal training offerings, such as the Almada Academy of Music or a center of the Center for Art and Visual Communication (Ar.Co).
Almada is the 2nd largest university center in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, consisting of 5 institutions where about 12,000 students are enrolled.
